So I finally got my new 6s last week but after a trip to visit family during the weekend and midterms at my university this week, I finally got to work on switching from my iPhone 5 (running on like iOS 6) to my new 6s. I backed it up via iCloud and through my laptop. Then when I started switching to the 6s, like other users my phone would freeze up on the white 'slide to upgrade' screen and tried running the update/refresh. I then decided to do it through my computer (took multiple tries due to lost connections) but I finally got it. Once I would start the process of putting it onto my new phone (such as when it says 'extracting software') it shows the phone's serial number, but when it goes to 'preparing iphone for software update' the serial number changes to 'n/a'. Once I start the update and it says 'serial number: n/a' it starts prepinng my phone and updating it, the bar on my phone stops at about halfway (during 'updating firmware' I believe) I then get an error message from iTunes on my laptop saying ' The iPhone could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1).' Anyone know what is causing this? Any way to fix it or tips/ideas? I talked to Apple support this morning and tried what they recommended (checked to make sure itunes and os were up to date, turned computer and itunes off and on, tried different USB slots and different charging

Apple is replacing the batteries for iPhone 6S devices that were manufactured between September and October 2015.
To find out if your iPhone 6S can get the free battery replacement you'll need to check the serial number of your iPhone 6S.
To do this go to Settings > General > About. Note down the serial number and enter it in Apple's support site.
You can also take it to an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider and they will check it for you.
You can find out where your nearest Apple Store is with the Find a store website.
Before getting your iPhone 6S battery replacement
If your iPhone 6S is eligible for a free battery replacement then before you hand your device over you should back up your data to your PC or to iCloud.

You should also turn off Find my iPhone and erase data and settings. You can then restore the data later.
To turn off Find my iPhone open up Settings on your iPhone 6S and go to iCloud. Next tap on 'turn off Find My iPhone'.
You should also check your iPhone 6S for damage to the body or screen. If it does have damage, Apple may charge you for any additional repairs. This may cost more money than other shops that can fix your screen, so you may want to shop around and get those fixed before you take the iPhone 6S to Apple.
